Basic Survey Skills
The Basic Survey Skills course familiarizes students with the fundamentals of surveying, which are required as a prerequisite for the Level I. Applied Fluvial Geomorphology course. Students will use surveying techniques to collect, analyze, and record physical stream data; specifically, students will learn how to:
- Set up and use a laser and sight level
- Survey with differential leveling and turning points
- Create a sketch map; survey a stream cross-section
- Conduct a longitudinal profile of the channel
- Conduct pebble counts
- Record and analyze the collected data
About Dave Rosgen, P.H., Ph.D.
Dave is a Professional Hydrologist and Geomorphologist with field experience in river work spanning 49 years, 20 of which were with the U.S. Forest Service.
